My inspiration for the artwork was to have a different reflection than other people have thought of. Instead of a self portrait, I decided to make a guitar reflecting on a mirror floor because I like guitars and I wanted my piece to include with a guitar.

I created this piece by first, drawing the two realistic guitars really light because on the black construction paper that was given to me, it is hard to erase the pencil lines on the paper. As well, not wanting the guitars to look outlined and cartoon. After I drew the guitars, I used a white colored pencil to highlight the light areas of the guitars from the dark areas. Then, to finish the artwork I drew a line across the paper to show the reflection of the guitars and added a glowing effect to draw attention to the mirror floor.

Artist Statement

What got me inspired for the elements of art and the principles of design was the roses that I drew. My reasoning for choosing a rose is for one, it is a beautiful flower and it stands for passion, desire and love.

The piece that I made is first created by picking out a subject to draw on the large paper.I chose a rose for my subject and had to draw it on a scrap piece of paper. Next, I had to draw the rose on a piece of card stock. I had to cut it out and trace it on the large paper. I had to trace enough roses to do the elements and principles. Then I had to show each element and principle on my paper.

The inspiration for the grid drawing was to choose a different celebrity that was not a popular pop star. So I chose a model instead of a pop star. Also, I was tried to challenge myself by choosing a colored picture instead of black and white picture.

How I made this piece was doing the mapping of the celebrity first. Then I tried figuring out where the shaded parts were and the light parts. After that, I drew the face and the facial features of the face. When I got all of the facial features done, then I started to construct the hair. After the hair was constructed, I drew the celebrity's hand to hold her face like it was in the photograph. Addition to drawing the hand, I shaded the light areas and dark areas.

Two Point Perspective

Tiki Sculpture

Fish coming out of a sink

My inspiration for the Fish coming out of a sink was to do a certain style that I like. There was impressionism, expressionism, cubism and surrealism. I did not want to do lines, emotions or cubes. I like odd things which brought me to like surrealism. I wanted two things that different and not supposed to be in same place. I chose a sink and fish in a cup because those two do not go together.

I created this piece by drawing lightly on the canvas to map the picture that I had because when painting , the dark lines will show up. Then I got my paint out and used dark colors instead of light colors because surrealism is not like impressionism or expressionism.

The inspiration for the two point perspective was to create a city that looks realistic or adding something that is likable for someone. I wanted to choose something that was likable to me than real stores. So I made buildings that consisted of retro video games.

How I made this piece was first making one dot at each end of the horizontal line. Then I drew the buildings in the point of view that I wanted. Next, I made the necessities of the buildings that I needed like the doors, signs and etc. I had different realistic things in the piece like a stop sign, grass on the sidewalks and cross ways on the roads.

The inspiration for the Tiki sculpture was learning about the Polynesians gods and what they stood for. There were gods to make the clay out of which were Kane- the creator, Ku- the god of war, Kanaou-the god of sea and Lono- the god of peace, music, and fertility. The most common gods chosen was Kanaou, Ku and Kane. I chose Lono because he was the least chosen and the happiest one out of all of them.

How I made this artwork was first by getting clay and lying out the right amount for the structure and base. Then I imagined what Lono look like on a piece of carved wood. Then, I took pieces of clay to shape Lono's features that make him.

Mountains

Mlk Jr. Picture

My inspiration for the Mountains was to find a landscape that was so captivating. I like to see landscapes that are different or have their own uniqueness to them. So I found this picture that had a beautiful sky and mountains with trees.

I created this piece by first mapping the mountains and the other main areas. Then I did a wash to all the sections afterwards. I waited for awhile and then the fine details afterwards.

The inspiration for the Martin Luther King Jr. drawing was to create a picture that talks about his dream. The theme for was Walk! Talk! Act! for this picture. So I tried to show all of those things.

How I created this piece was first figuring out what can I do for this concept. Then, I drew things that I thought was closest to the theme. Next, I got colored pencils to emphasize the picture.
